Individual Exploration of Modern Sculpture in the studio.

Overview:

This studio course is a one-on-one introduction to the tools, materials, and methods of modern sculpture. Hands-on assignments complement the discussions with work in various materials. Techniques introduced will cover the sculptural processes of carving, modeling, and construction.

Techniques available upon request:

• Soapstone carving
• Wax or Clay sculpture
• Mold-making
• Casting in polyester and/or polyurethane
• Arc welding
• Oxy/Acetylene welding

The student may choose to focus on any one or a combination of techniques. The final result of the course is the creation of a personal totem - a representation of an individual's history, beliefs or experiences.

No prior study or experience in art is necessary.

Projects

The student is free to choose his/her own project. Ultimately this is a project-based course with guidance from the instructor.
