Ferro-cement Sculpture Course |
|
Explore Ferro-cement sculpture in the artist's studio.
Overview:
Ferro-cement is a building and sculpting method used for everything from sailboat hulls to buildings, using very little material and is highly durable. Iron rods and wire are combined to support a myriad of cement forms. The process is divided into two phases; first the wireframe is constructed by welding rods to the desired rough form, then the form is covered in layers of cement. The cement can be left as is or coloured using oxides.
This studio course is an introduction to the tools, materials, and methods of ferro-cement sculpture. Techniques introduced will cover the sculptural processes of wireframe construction, application of cement layers and final finish.
